Frequently Asked Questions:
Direct Dish Home
Q: "Is this really a free offer"
A: Yes! You get your satellite dish, four receivers, and your installation free. You get the equipment for free because you will make a commitment to keep continuous coverage for twelve full months. You must keep in mind though that you are actually leasing your equipment from Dish Network so if you ever discontinue service, the equipment goes back to them.
Q: "What are the requirements to get Dish Network?"
A: First, you cannot have been a Dish Network customer at any time prior to now. Second, you must have a visa or mastercard in your name. Third, you must have a clear unobstructed view to the South from your home. Fourth, you must be able to pass a credit check with a national credit bureau.
Q: "Why do you charge a $49.99 activation fee?"
A: This is a standard charge that covers processing the activation of your system. The best part though is that it also gives you your first month of service for free.
Q: "Must I use my credit card?"
A: "Yes. You must have a valid credit, debit, or check card with a Visa or Mastercard logo on it to qualify for this offer. Keep in mind that your monthly service will be automatically billed to this card.
A: Click on the programming package link to see a complete listing of all channels available on the various packages.
Q: "Can I substitute one channel for another in my package?"
A: We strive to make satellite programming as affordable as possible. One way to help keep costs lower is to provide stations in packages, rather than mostly a la carte. Allowing customers to substitute channels would have the adverse effect of forcing us to raise prices, both for overall programming, and for a la carte stations. To prevent this, no substitutions are allowed.
Q: "Do I have to choose my programming package right away?"
A: No you do not. Research it now though, because you must choose one when the installer comes to your home.
Q: "Can I get my local stations?"
A: You must live in a designated market area to receive local channels. Designated market areas are determined by your local networks, not DISH Network. Click on the link for local programming to see if you qualify. If you don't qualify, you can still use a regular aerial antenna to get the locals.
Q: "How many televisions can I have Dish on in my home?"
A: You can actually have up to six receivers running off one satellite dish, which means different programming on six televisions in your home. Your $49.99 activation fee covers up to four receivers.

Q: "How can I block Adult Programming?"
A: DISH Network is pleased to offer a software feature called "Adult Guard." This feature takes advantage of the built-in V-chip-type technology in our satellite receivers to offer you, the customer, another level of security with regards to Adult programming. This feature is available for all models of receivers. To check and see if your unit has received this new software yet, please access your system information screen using the following steps: (NOTE: Procedure may vary for different models.)
If your receiver did not take it, new software is not up on the satellite for your model to receive it yet. Please be patient, we are working quickly to bring this feature to all of our customers. The new "Adult Guard" feature gives you the capability to remove the "Adult" channels (Playboy, TeN, Pleasure, ETC, Extasy) from your Electronic Program Guide. This prevents any children in the household from viewing the programming OR accessing the program information. To activate "Adult Guard," follow these simple steps. (NOTE: procedure may vary for some receivers.)
Q: " I live in an apartment/condo. Can I still get Dish Network?"
A: Most often as long as your balcony faces to the South, service will be available. Please check with your landlord first to see what their rules are as far as installation.
